Parga is one of the prettiest places I’ve ever visited. For some reason I didn’t expect much from its beaches. Maybe it was because of the fact that Parga isn’t an island or that most pictures just show the Disney colored bay with the town rising up on the hill. So I was very pleasantly pleased to discover three really beautiful beaches within easy distance from Parga during our visit to this amazing town. So, what are the best beaches in Parga?
Best Beaches in Parga
There are three lovely beaches that you can choose from if you don’t want to travel too far from Parga.
Krioneri Beach – Great Central Location
Krioneri Beach is the easiest option if you’re staying in town. That’s because it’s right there. It’s a small but pretty beach with some great restaurants for quick and easy lunch.
How to get to Krioneri Beach?
Just walk down the hill towards the water front restaurants. It’s at the other end of the bay.
Lichnos Beach – Lovely Peaceful Atmosphere
Lichnos Beach was probably my favorite beach in Parga. It was very peaceful, incredibly beautiful and it was a bit of an adventure to get there. There aren’t that many hotels near Lichnos – that’s why it’s not as crowded as the other two. There are a couple of restaurants there though so you can easily spend an entire day there if you love spending time in the sun.
How to get to Lichnos Beach?
You can take a taxi or a water taxi there from Parga. The water taxi is very comfortable and costs just 4,5 € one way.
You can also walk there which is what we did! Be prepared though that if you want to take the scenic route (over the hill along olive groves and an amazing sea view) it will take 1,5 to 2 hours to get there. Depending on how many breaks you’re taking 🙂 It’s quite a walk but I definitely recommend it: Amazing views!
Valtos Beach – The Longest and Most Popular Beach
Valtos Beach is a very popular beach in Parga. It’s closer to the town center and there are a lot of hotels in the area. It’s particularly popular among families with children.
How to get to Valtos Beach?
The best ways to get to Valtos Beach is by walking or by taking a water taxi. The water taxi costs 2 € one way. Walking to the beach from Parga is a lot easier and less time consuming than walking to Lichnos Beach. Just walk up to the castle and then down the hill to the beach.
In conclusion, the only slightly negative thing about beaches in Parga is that they have small pebbles so they are not very sandy. I have very sensitive feet so the small pebbles on the beach hurt my feet a little bit but I think most people are not as tickly, at least they seemed to walk quite comfortably compared to me.
Enjoy the best beaches in Parga! 🙂
